What is load balancing all about?
A few weeks ago ASP was present at one of KEMP’s training sessions in Belgium on Kemp load balancers. Kemp already established training facilities in the Netherlands where they have a testing infrastructure with different KEMP models.
Kemp is a privately held company established in the year 2000 and a pioneer in affordable server load balancing. Kemp was able to attain a consistent and profitable growth over the years. Currently more than 15.000 clients world wide are using Kemp technology. Kemp is certified for MSE exchange and lync.
What is load balancing?
Load balancing means dividing the amount of work that a computer has to do between two or more computers so that more work gets done in the same amount of time and, in general, all users get served faster…
So, what is load balancing all about?
Kemp virtual load balancers
Throughout the training we made use of virtual load balancers, using one of the other hypervisors installed in our laptops. Kemp supports a wide range of hypervisors: VMware, Oracle virtualbox etc.
The use of cloud-based web servers is a great advantage. It means you do not necessarily have to buy Kemp hardware, but can decide between virtual load balancers or ‘bare metal’. This means that you could use your own servers to install the load balancer software. All the Dell poweredge R series are supported, as well as some models from other vendors.
Kemp certified for Microsoft products
What’s new is that Kemp is now certified for most Microsoft products such as Exchange, Lync, RDS etc. This can be a lifesaver in case of issues because Microsoft will no longer request to take the server out of the load balancer before investigating an issue. This would have been the case otherwise.
Loadmaster GEO
Loadmaster GEO goes one step further. It distributes workload between geographically spread and independent datacenters in order to prevent service disruption.
